Road categories are different services
Category 1 major roads and hospital routes are targeted within 24 hours after an event with at least 5 cm of snow. Category 2 roads, including transit routes and downtown, are targeted within 36 hours. Category 3 roads, including school-unloading roads, are targeted within 48 hours. Gravel Category 4 roads are targeted within 60 hours.
The Category 5 residential threshold is 15 cm from one event, with work when weather and time permit. A named street can cross multiple categories. Use the City road-category and live winter-maintenance maps for the actual street segment.

During the snowfall and after it
Storm Mode prioritizes Category 1 and 2 roads plus perimeter roads prone to drifting. It ends when snow stops falling. Crews apply sand and salt selectively at intersections, bridges, ramps, curves, schools and other icy areas.
A snow route can be declared following 5 cm in one event. That declaration bans parking for 24 hours along designated routes. Residential snow ridges are stored in the parking lane. Move cars into a driveway or garage when possible so crews can clear streets efficiently.
Snow ridges and resident reports
Plowing can leave ridges even where gates reduce them. Alleys receiving waste pickup are cleared after major events, but narrow-alley equipment can leave ridges residents must clear. The City does not promise bare pavement.
Submit a service request if a ridge blocks a driveway, harms intersection sightlines or creates a driving hazard. Use the separate sidewalk rules for snow beside your property. Sign up for address notifications and check current declarations before parking.
